Man in motion

Yesterday, the Man in Motion World Tour made its way through campus.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Rick Hansen’s tour across 34 countries in a wheel chair. In honour of the anniversary, the tour will recreate Hansen’s exact path.

The anniversary tour includes over 7,000 volunteer Medal Bearers relaying sections of the race with other volunteers running beside them. There is also a recreational vehicle and police cars escorting the participants.

Additionally, the Rick Hansen Foundation has partnered with the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research to address veteran spinal cord injury research in Canada.

Their newly-signed agreement states that they will collaborate in the future to improve the quality of health care for military personnel and veterans with spinal cord injuries.

Mike Duffy at Queen’s

Senator Mike Duffy spoke at an event hosted by the Queen’s University Conservative Association on Friday.

Duffy, who represents Cavendish, P.E.I. said the Conservative Party has a “rich and proud heritage.” “Under Conservative governments, Women and Aboriginals got the right to vote for the very first time,” he said to the audience.

Duffy also said tough decisions need to be made with Canada’s economy.

“There are some government programs that, frankly, no longer serve a great purpose, and I think they’re going to be gone,” he said. “We don’t know which ones yet.”

Duffy said he defends the federal government’s crime policy, adding that since the government’s last crime bill two years ago, Canada’s prison population has only risen by 800 inmates, most of whom were repeat offenders.

“There are people now who have chosen crime as a career,” he said.
