Students rally in support of Iran’s students

More than 20 Queen’s students braved the snow yesterday afternoon to rally in support of students in Iran, who planned a day of protests for Dec. 7.

Students gathered outside Tehran University in Iran, demanding government accountability and protesting against Iran’s disputed June election that renewed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidential term.

At Queen’s, students stood outside Stauffer Library carrying Iranian flags and signs with slogans such as, “Freedom for Iran” and “We Are With You.”

The group also sang songs and walked around campus, visiting places such as the Queen’s Centre.

Last week, the AMS and the Society of Graduate and Professional Students voted to express solidarity with Iranian students.

The AMS released a statement on their website that says Iranian students have Queen’s support and wishes for their freedom of speech and democratic rights.
