Summer TV preview

Between your grueling summer job and your extra summer classes, there must be a way to just relax. Yes, it’s true that some of the best television shows take a hiatus for the summer, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a bunch of great new shows just waiting to air. So put down the Netflix, and pay attention to these seriously awesome must-watch summer shows.

The Leftovers

It’s sort of a rule of thumb that anything on HBO is a hit. This new show follows the aftermath of when two per cent of the world’s population disappears. Just from the trailer alone, there are definitely both eerie and action vibes, but if you’re still not into it, keep in mind the series comes from Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof. The show’s star-studded cast includes Liv Tyler and Justin Theroux. Premiering Sunday June 29 at 10 p.m., I would definitely give it a try.

Silicon Valley

Technically the season one finale just premiered, but if you’re looking for something to binge watch, Silicon Valley is for you. Only eight episodes at 30 minutes each, season one will definitely leave you vying for a second. The show follows a shy programmer and his three programmer friends at a large Internet company called Hooli. The premise is a lot more exciting than that, however. The show makes you laugh, cry and angry all at the same time. Silicon Valley is not a show to miss and will probably gain more recognition down the road.

Welcome To Sweden

We all love Amy Poehler right? Well, what if I told you this show included Amy Poehler and her brother, Greg Poehler? Based on Greg Poeler’s true life experiences about having moved to Sweden to live with a woman he married, this comedy is bound to be successful. Including Aubrey Plaza, and a cameo from Will Ferrell, the cast alone is getting me super excited for all the laughs that are sure to come. Don’t miss the premiere July 10 at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Jonah From Tonga

This show is so totally quiche. From the creator of Summer Heights High and Jaime Private School Girl, Chris Lilley presents Jonah From Tonga. As expected, Chris Lilley doesn’t’ disappoint in this hilarious show following the life of Jonah from Summer Heights High. Although the show has already premiered, it’s super entertaining and great to binge watch.

Going into its second season, Rectify takes a captivating look at the life of a man released from Death Row. When he returns to a small town in Georgia, many still think he’s guilty. This show is definitely a change from the reality television we are used to. Premiering June 19 at 9 p.m., I will be sure to give it a watch.
